Elvis Presley. We all knew who he was. We all know that millions cried the day he died. Most of us know someone who is still an avid fan of this phenomenal singer/actor. This writer has an aunt who is still in love with him today, as she was during her teenage days. She collects everything that is related to Elvis. You name and she has it. She has every known collectible from a bedframe with his signed name attached to the headboard to every record she can find. She loves the man, known as “The King.”
Elvis Presley was born on January 8, 1935. His parents were Vernon and Gladys Presley. They lived in Tupelo, Mississippi.
His first number one hit was “HeartBreak Hotel.” It became number one in 1956. This song and many like it had a rockabilly sound that was influenced by the African American music of the time. After “Heartbrek Hotel” became number one, Elvis became the trend setter in Rock music. He became a familiar face on many network television shows.
He quickly began producing more songs and then he began his acting career. His first film was entitled “Love Me Tender.” It was released in 1956.
In 1958, he joined the Army for two years. Then in 1960 he relaunched his music and film career.
During his career, he won 3 Grammy’s and A Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award at the young age of 36.
Then the unthinkable happen. On August 16, 1977, “The King”, Elvis Aaron Presley died from an overdose. The world was shocked.
Yet, his legend still lives today. His fans continue to worship, the singer, the actor, the man.
